The Mission...after the Mission

Come and See! What's next Page 1Page 2

As a result of the “COME AND SEE” Mission in 2009, the PCC met with Fr. Paul Greenwell (the Mission Team Leader) and the Parish Mission Team. It was agreed that action should be taken on the following recommendations, enabling us to be better equipped for our mission in the Parish of Grimethorpe with Brierley. The PCC will work through these recommendations throughout 2009 and 2010, and update in August 2010.

Those recommendations below highlighted in red have been actioned, highlighted in blue are statements, in black are still in progress.

  • That the Sunday Mass times change, to enable Fr Peter to be more effective in pastoral up-building. So, from the First Sunday in September 2009, the Sunday Mass times will be:
9.30am  Mass at St Paul’s Church, Brierley
11.00am  Parish Mass at St. Luke’s Church, Grimethorpe
  • Weekdays: A mass would be said at St. Paul’s Church, Brierley on one evening a week (TBA).
  • A Saturday evening Vigil Mass would be tried to accommodate those who work on Sundays.  This would not just be for the Parish, but for the Deanery to allow people to fulfil their Sunday obligations.
  • That the Congregation would support to the full Back to Church Sunday, in common with the whole Church, which takes place in September.
  • Is it possible to keep St. Paul’s open for an hour after a mid-week service?
    Looking for Volunteers.
  • A Baptismal Pastoral Visiting Team (of at least four) would be set up, working under the guidance of the Mothers’ Union.
  • A monthly Mass (as at Hallsteads Nursing Home) will be offered to ‘Bollingbroke House’.
  • That all would try and become more effective in welcoming people at Church – both before and after Mass.
  • That the Sunday Mass would encourage children to take part more inclusively.
  • House groups: From September 2009, there would be a House Group (alternately) in Grimethorpe and Brierley, as a means of outreach, learning and building up fellowship.
  • Not Everybody should be involved in Everything, but everyone should be ‘Interested in Everything’.
  • NURTURE GROUP: That a nurture group for new people and others to learn more about the faith would be established. These would be informal and would include a simple supper.
  • ALL giving is Mission.
  • That we invest in New Mass Books (this is currently on hold)

Planned Building Work

August       - New disabled access ramp installed at St. Paul’s in Aug.

September - New stained glass windows are installed at St. Luke’s in Sept.

The Pulpit at St. Luke's will be repositioned into the Church Garden during Sept.

May God bless us in the task we have undertaken in His name, and may His Kingdom come through our faithfulness.  Our Lady, St. Luke and St. Paul Pray for us. Thanks be to God.
