St. Luke's Grimethorpe Fund

In December 2003, Fr. Peter Needham attempted a barefoot sponsored walk from Grimethorpe to York. This was to increase the profile of the church and to raise much needed funds to help repair the church building of St. Luke's Grimethorpe, to be a building that the whole community of our socially needy village could use.
The event raised a great amount of publicity and funds to enable St. Luke's Church to be re-roofed.
We are now ready to proceed with the next phase of the building, but need the funds to get started. So we decided to do a sponsored walk in reverse - York to Grimethorpe!
Not barefoot this time, but carrying a great cross, which is over three times heavier than the Cross carried be Royal Navy Chaplains completing the Commando Course to get their Green Berets.
(Priests in the Armed Forces are not allowed to carry rifles)
Fr. Peter was supported on his journey by Mike Mowbray, the church warden. The 40 mile walk took three days in the heart of the season of Lent - a time when thoughts are of the Passion of Christ - and the centrality of the Cross is paramount.

Father Peter, at the end of his 40 mile walk, arrives in Brierley.
